Event Details
Venezuelan Songbook in the House Concert featuring multitalented musician Juan Carlos Ruiz and his new album inspired by Sammy Cahn and Nat King Cole
About this event
Emerging Venezuelan artist Juan Carlos Ruiz will be in Philadelphia to release the first volume of his third album titled Venezuelan Songbook. This event, presented by Casa de Venezuela and Fleisher Art, is part of the 360 Culture Lab supported by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. On October 9th at 7PM, Fleisher Art will host a concert by Juan Carlos Ruiz with the intention to connect and unify Venezuelan and American cultures. The first volume of the Venezuelan Songbook contains seven traditional Venezuelan songs all translated into English as an homage to the gracious welcoming of immigrant Venezuelans into the United States.
Inspired by the legendary American composer Sammy Cahn, who, in the 1970s, made English versions of traditional Venezuelan songs written by the beloved Aldemaro Romero, Ruiz created the Venezuelan Songbook to support the internationalization of Venezuelan songwriters, revitalize Venezuelan arts and culture, and connect with American people in their own language.
The album is available on all streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Amazon Music, Tidal, Deezer, and YouTube.
