Description

Mirror Memoirs is a national storytelling and organizing project intervening in rape culture by uplifting the narratives, healing, and leadership of LGBTQI+ people of color who survived child sexual abuse.

Event Details

Founded by Amita Swadhin in 2016 through a fellowship from the Just Beginnings Collaborative, the initial oral history archive includes the stories of 60 survivors across 15 states. This salon will be a generative space for reflection as we hear excerpts from survivors on healing, accountability and prevention, and learn more about ways to support the expansion of the project.

Amita’s visit to ICA is in conjunction with the #FromNO2Love conference in Philadelphia from October 31, 2019 – November 1, 2019 where they will be a guest speaker. The conference is a Black centered forum focused on disrupting sexual violence. Educators, artists, organizers, and poets are among the presenters, including faculty from Penn. The University is a co-sponsor for the conference and serves as one of the host institutions. #FromNO2Love is free and open to the public. Visit their website for additional information.
